Two Shot Celebrity Goose Hunt

Southeast Colorado Two Shot Celebrity Goose Hunt

Are you a sportsman looking for an entertaining event this coming fall? Why not come to Lamar, Colorado; the “Goose Hunting Capital of the World.”

The Annual Two Shot Goose Hunt is scheduled to kick off on November 28, 2012 with a President’s Reception at 6:30 p.m. in the Empire Room at the Cow Palace Inn. There will be complimentary cocktails and hors d’ oeuvres served, live and silent auction, Calcutta and drawing for Upland Guides and Goose Guides. This event is open to the public but you must be 21 or older to attend. The rest of the events include Sporting Clays at Lamar Trap Club, Upland Hunt at Jim Rogers Country on November 29th and the official Goose Hunt on November 30th which includes an Awards Banquet in the evening.

To quote C.V. Mills, former writer for the Lamar Daily News, “Southeast Colorado, that vast sea of land engulfing Lamar, Colorado has long been known as the Goose Hunting Capital of the World.” In 1966 a group of area businessman, sports enthusiasts, farmers and ranchers organized this great sporting event in an effort to place Southeast Colorado on the map as a national sportsmen’s destination.

Some of the biggest names in the country have helped to make the Two Shot a resounding success. Some of the earliest celebrities who attended were Astronaut Wally Schirra, “King of the Cowboys” Roy Rogers, Cowboy Poet Baxter Black, Governor Lamm, former Denver Bronco quarterback Charlie Johnson, daytime soap star Josh Taylor of Days of our Lives, Wyoming’s
Governor Ed Herschler, Movie Star, John Ashton, Colorado Rockies’s First Baseman, Todd Helton and Governor Bill Owens. Baseball Hall of Famer, Goose Gossage has been supporting the Two Shot since the early ‘80’s and will be attending this year along with NFL Super Bowl winners Ralph Tamm and Dave Studdard.

A significant amount of the proceeds from the President’s Reception and Auction on Wednesday are used for local charities such as the Lamar Area Hospice, Share the Spirit Foundation, Toys for Tots, DOW designated wildlife conversation projects in Southeast Colorado and the Colorado Chapter of Hunt of a Lifetime. The Hunt of a Lifetime is a nonprofit organization with a mission to grant hunting and fishing adventures and dreams for children age 21 and under, who have been diagnosed with life threatening illnesses. The Two Shot has also made a number of donations to area families with children who have life threatening illnesses. It is because of the generosity of the local businesses, community and volunteers that the Two Shot auction has been a huge success.

Robert Yates, President of the Two Shot Goose Club thanks the landowners that give permission for our guides and teams to hunt on their property. This hunt would not be possible without them.
